April is Earth Month, and at Lark & Berry, nothing is more important to us than the survival of our planet.
That’s why we decided to partner with carbon dioxide and air capture technology company Climeworks for the entirety of this month. How does it work? Well, for every £5,000 we sell in April, Lark & Berry will remove 65kg of excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in partnership with Climeworks.
That means all you have to do to help is shop with us, and through buying cultured diamonds (also known as lab grown diamonds) luxury jewellery, you’re not only making the best diamonds choice for our planet, but you’re helping to clean our air!
Climeworks uses a technology called 'direct air capture' to capture carbon dioxide directly from the air. As you may know, the major threat from increased CO2 in our atmosphere is the greenhouse effect. As a greenhouse gas, excessive CO2 creates a cover that traps the sun's heat energy in the atmospheric bubble, warming the planet and the oceans.
Climeworks was founded in 2009 and is now the leader in direct air capture (DAC) technology. The company’s first direct air capture plant launched in 2017, and they now have 15 machines in operation, with the world’s first large-scale plant switched on in Iceland in September 2021. To date, the Iceland plant, called the Orca carbon capture plant, is the largest direct air capture facility in the world, capturing 4,000 tons of CO2 per year.
We’re excited to add Climeworks to our growing roster of companies like One Tree Planted who we work in collaboration with to help combat the ravages of climate change. And we’re so thankful to all of your for supporting these efforts by purchasing jewellery with cultured diamonds, by far the most sustainable diamonds for our planet!
